10th December: Human Rights Day

Year after year, people around the world celebrate Human Rights Day on 10th December. On 10th December 1948, the United Nations announced the “Universal Declaration of Human Rights”. For the first time it guaranteed equal rights for all people. The Declaration is still relevant after more than 70 years. Because every day somewhere in the world one of its 30 articles is violated. State arbitrariness and violence exist in many places and in various forms. The right to life and freedom or the prohibition of torture is ignored. Freedom of expression and information or the prohibition of discrimination are violated. The right to asylum or the right to education is also denied. Year after year, in the district of Tübingen too, people demonstrate for human rights on 10 December and form a human chain.
