Germany is becoming more and more attractive for foreign students. The number of foreign students beginning their studies in Germany rose again in 2018, according to the migration report from the Federal Ministry of the Interior. A total of 109,995 students with foreign admission began studying at a German university in 2018, 4.8% more than in 2017 (104,940). The largest group to begin their studies at a German university in 2018 are students with Chinese citizenship. There have also been many students from Syria since 2017. In 2018, the 5,783 Syrian students were the third largest group, with 5.3%.
