The nose is running. The heart is racing. The back is hurting. But some sick people don’t want to visit a doctor’s office during corona-times. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, more and more doctors are offering so called telemedicine. One of the features are consultation via video chat. A requirement for this is owning a smartphone, a tablet or a computer with a camera. “Telemedicine can be an opportunity to look after patients in rural areas and in case of a shortage of specialists especially,” writes the consumer centre. However, “remote treatment can’t replace the personal contact between doctor and patient.” Patients who are interested in the video consultation hour should inquire about its opportunities and limitations with their doctor. According to a 2016 study by the consumer centre, many patients welcome the new opportunity. “However, many are worried about the security of their data as well,” says the consumer centre.
