In 2020, the child bonus, or Kinderbonus, was paid for around 16 million children. Its aim is to support families during the corona pandemic. A requirement was that the children were entitled to the child benefit for at least a month in 2020. Children who were born in the year 2020 and for whom no application for the child benefit was filed yet, can receive the child bonus belatedly in 2021. Important is to file the application for the child benefit. If receiving it, the child bonus is given automatically. The application for child benefit can be filed directly online. It is not yet decided, if the child bonus will be paid this year as well.
