The district of Tübingen prepares for refugees from Ukraine

About 19,000 refugees from Ukraine are registered in Germany so far, according to the Federal Ministry of the Interior (as of March 5th). However, there are probably already many more. This is because Ukrainian citizens can enter the European Union without a visa and move freely in the EU member states.

The district, cities and municipalities in the district of Tübingen expect that refugees from Ukraine will increasingly arrive in Baden-Württemberg as well. As a precaution, the district, cities and municipalities are, therefore, calling in a press release to report vacant living space that the district can rent for the purpose of accommodating Ukrainian refugees. Contact persons for reporting living space are directly the mayor’s offices of the cities and municipalities, which will provide a contact address for further information on their homepage.

At www.tueukraine.de, the Tübingen District Office provides information that is updated regularly. Questions on topics such as social welfare, compulsory schooling, health insurance are currently being clarified at the federal level. Due to the “EU mass influx directive” in effect since March 3rd, it can be assumed that refugees from Ukraine will be treated according to the Asylum Seekers’ Benefits Act and thus receive the appropriate support.

Many residents would like to help, be it with donations in kind or money, or even with the provision of living space. Some of them have personal contacts in Ukraine and have already taken in relatives or friends in their homes. The district, cities and communities in the district of Tübingen are very grateful for this great willingness to help. The regional media have already reported on aid campaigns from the community of Nehren, Romaniahilfe Mössingen or the Eberhardskirche Tübingen.
