Nearly 2,500 refugees from Ukraine are registered in the district of Tübingen

Around 2,450 refugees from Ukraine are currently registered in the district of Tübingen. In addition, there are other people who do not register with the authorities because they are only here temporarily and are living with acquaintances, for example. This is reported by the press office of the Tübingen district office. Because Tübingen has taken in more Ukrainian refugees since July than it should have based on its population, there are currently no allocations from the initial reception centers. Individuals, however, continue to come.
The rush was greatest in March (338 refugees) and May (324). In April and June, the numbers were lower by about 100 people each. Women with children make up the largest group, but many seniors also come, the district office reports. Often it is entire families who seek shelter here. The district office estimates that a quarter to a third of the refugees are children of school age. Furthermore, there are refugees who do not have Ukrainian citizenship themselves, but have lived there, for example, as students. Among them are also young men.
Because fewer refugees are currently arriving, the Kreissporthalle in Tübingen will be closed as an arrival center on September 1. There, as well as in the former Hotel Convita in Rottenburg and the Pilgrims’ Hostel in Frommenhausen, 150 people are currently living. Around 1,300 refugees are housed in 250 registered apartments. Around 1,000 people live privately.
