Help for refugees with tumor diseases

Refugees from Ukraine who are suffering from cancer can find offers of help for medical treatment throughout Germany. The German Cancer Society has launched a support project for this purpose together with the Comprehensive Cancer Center network of German Cancer Aid. They have compiled addresses that patients with tumor diseases can turn to. The nearest point of contact in Tübingen is the Comprehensive Cancer Center (Tumor Center) at Tübingen University Hospital (international.unit@med.uni-tuebingen.de) Information is available in Ukrainian, Russian, English and German.
In addition, German Cancer Aid has set up an aid fund with 2.5 million euros so that relatives can support tumor patients at the place of treatment. “The aid fund quickly and unbureaucratically covers travel, accommodation and other costs already incurred or to be incurred by family members of patients,” according to a statement from the German Cancer Society. This applies both to relatives of children with cancer and to adult patients. The Oncological Centers of Excellence, certified cancer centers and all pediatric cancer centers provide the reimbursement for their patients.
According to its own words, the German Cancer Society is the largest scientific oncological society in Germany. The list of contact persons in the individual German states can be found on the society’s website. Doctors are asked to contact the facility closest to where they are currently staying. “All of the facilities listed have extensive experience in the detection and treatment of tumor diseases,” the press release states.
