Children are allowed to travel alone in ermany, but there are some conditions and restrictions that may vary depending on the age of the child and the type of trip.
For domestic travel in Germany, there are no specific laws or regulations that state whether or not a child may travel alone. In principle, children 6 years of age and older may travel alone by train. Most airlines, train companies and bus companies have their own regulations for children traveling alone—for example, a minimum age and special support services such as accompaniment and care during the trip.
If a child wants to travel abroad, additional requirements such as travel documents and permits may be needed. The German Foreign Office recommends that parents or guardians provide a power of attorney and a copy of the child’s birth certificate when children travel abroad.
Children between the ages of 5 and 11 traveling alone must be registered with airlines as minors. Childcare services must be booked for them. Airlines also provide care services for children with special needs.
Children traveling alone, ages 12 to 17 or 18, may be registered as minor travelers. Childcare can be booked for them. Parents should check with the airline in question for conditions and care costs, as well as with the destination country for rules governing children traveling alone.
