What to do after the German course, work or as a remedy for boredom? This is a question many immigrants ask themselves after moving to a new city. TünewsINTERNATIONAL has put together a few free activities and events in Tübingen.
In Tübingen and the surrounding area, there are a number of sports activities that you can participate in without having to join a club or pay a fee.
During the warmer months, for example, there is a sports program in the Old Botanical Garden. The city of Tübingen and the Stadtsportbund invite people over 50 to take part in the “Healthy and Active Aging” project. Various groups and institutions offer free sports activities: outdoors in summer, indoors in winter. Starting in April, classes will be held every Tuesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. in the Old Botanical Garden (by the underpass next to the Nuns’ House). During the cold season, classes are held every Tuesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. in the Hermann Hepper Hall. There is no need to register. Detailed information: https://www.tuebingen.de/sportaktiv#/23450
A free municipal skate park “3-in-One” can be found on the Neckar River west of the schools along Uhlandstrasse. It includes a skatepark, parkour and pumptrack facility.
For joggers, there are several running clubs in the city. The best known is that of the Postsportverein. Runners meet at 4 p.m. on Saturdays (3 p.m. in the winter months) at the Sand/Falkenweg parking lot. They run in groups with trained running club leaders on routes between 4.3 and 12 kilometers.
