Sirens only wail as a rehearsal

When the sirens sound next Thursday at 11 a.m., there is no need to worry. It is a test alarm. This is according to the Tübingen District Office. On the nationwide warning day on Thursday, September 12, all instruments that can be used to alert the population to danger in an emergency will be tested. In some towns and municipalities, this also includes sirens. The all-clear is then given at 11.45 am.
The test warnings are also issued via radio and television as well as smartphone apps such as NINA. Cell broadcasting is being used for the first time this year: all cell phones that have dialed into a radio mast automatically receive a message. It is similar to an SMS, so no special app is required. However, the system may not work on older cell phones.
With the warning day, the authorities want to raise awareness of civil protection and check whether all systems are working smoothly. To warn people of impending disasters—such as severe flooding—local authorities have the Modular Warning System of the Federal Government (MoWaS) at their disposal. Different means are used depending on the type of danger.
The emergency number 112 can also be reached as usual on the warning day. However, the district office asks that you do not contact the authorities or the integrated control center on this day to report your experiences. The website is available for this purpose:
