Voluntary language course for young migrants a success

18 vocational school students from various countries of origin have used their summer holidays to improve their German language skills by taking part in a voluntary intensive language course. According to a statement from the Tübingen District Office, the district of Tübingen, its vocational schools and the Tübingen Adult Education Centre worked closely together to offer the course. The large need for coordination between the parties was worth it, said the district’s integration officer, Barbara Tomforde, tuenews INTERNATIONAL. The teachers were very satisfied with the students’ cooperation.

Better knowledge of German
The young migrants have significantly improved their knowledge of German and thus their career opportunities, continued Tomforde. All participants will attend a secondary vocational training programme or begin an apprenticeship in the new school year. During their summer holidays, they voluntarily attended six teaching units a day, Monday to Friday, at the Tübingen adult education centre. The course ends with an exam for the B2 language level. It is not yet clear whether it will take place again next year.
