Anyone moving to Tübingen or relocating within the city can now register their new main residence digitally. This must be done within two weeks of moving. The city’s new online service eliminates the need to visit the citizens’ office or an administrative office in person.
Some technical requirements
„The easiest way to register online is with a smartphone,“ writes the city in its press release. The online service can be found on the city’s website at www.tuebingen.de/umzug. However, you will need an ID card or an eID card with the online ID function activated; a smartphone with an NFC interface, which can be used to make secure and contactless payments, for example, or a card reader; the free federal ID app for smartphones or PCs and a user account, such as the Bund-ID. It offers a central account for identification for all online applications.
Identify yourself, then update your data
Once users have proven their identity with the ID card app, they can retrieve and update their personal data from the residents’ register. Before the application can be sent, however, confirmation from the landlord must be uploaded. The landlord can be the owner of the apartment, the landlord or a family member.
The city describes what happens afterwards in detail in the back of its press release—see:
