The city of Tübingen is making parking with cell phone apps cheaper for users. For some time now, it has been paying the service fees charged by some providers. The city council covers the transaction costs for EasyPark, mobilet, Parco, Parkster and PayByPhone. This means that parking with a cell phone is no more expensive than using small change at a parking machine or parking meter. Only the smallest provider, Yellowbrick in Tübingen, still requires customers to pay the service fee. City employees can check electronically whether or not a cell phone ticket has been purchased for a car. The city expects this to cost an estimated 50,000 euros per year. However, it can also save three full-time positions and hundreds of ticket machines, according to the press release.
