There are currently 249 billionaires in Germany – 23 more than before. This record figure was reported by manager magazin. It publishes a list of the 500 super-rich every year. First place goes to entrepreneur Dieter Schwarz from Heilbronn. He is the owner of Kaufland and Lidl. The magazine estimates his wealth at 43.7 billion euros after researching various sources. In second place are the siblings Susanne Klatten and Stefan Quandt (34.4 billion). They are major shareholders in the BMW car company. The magazine estimates the Merck family‘s assets at 33.8 billion euros. They hold the majority of the pharmaceutical and chemical group named after them in Darmstadt. Since last year, the total assets of the 500 German super-rich are said to have increased by 53 billion euros to around 1.1 trillion.
