The extracurricular studies program at the University of Tübingen is dealing with Muslim life in Germany this semester. The lecture series is organized by the Center for Islamic Theology and will continue until mid-February. It deals with the legal situation of Muslims in Germany, the application of Sharia law, the training of imams in Germany, and issues of extremism and radicalization. Innovative aspects of Muslim life are also discussed.
Muslims are an integral part of society
According to a statement from the university, Muslims have long since become an integral part of German society. According to a study commissioned by the German Islam Conference (DIK) and entitled “Muslim Life in Germany 2020,” between 5.3 and 5.6 million Muslims live in Germany. The lecture series aims to address acute issues that affect society as a whole, issues that are not reserved for the ivory tower of academia but are of great interest to a broader public.
The University of Tübingen’s Studium Generale events on “Muslim Life in Germany” are held every Tuesday at 6 p.m. in lecture hall 25 of the Kupferbau building on Hölderlinstraße.
