What does a Syrian teacher have to do to be able to work in Germany? What exactly is an opportunity card? And where can you have your foreign professional qualification recognized? It’s not easy for refugees or migrants who want to gain a foothold in Germany. The “Working and living in Germany” hotline provides answers to many questions that arise in connection with the Skilled Immigration Act and the recognition of foreign professional qualifications. It can be reached on +49 30 1815 – 1111 and is operated by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) and the Federal Employment Agency (BA). Advisors are available on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and speak German and English.
It answers questions on the recognition of foreign qualifications, entry and residence as well as German courses in Germany and abroad. The advice itself is free of charge, but telephone charges may apply. For topics relating to professional recognition, there is a contact form for written inquiries on the homepage Anerkennung in Deutschland | Hotline. The site offers an FAQ overview for an initial overview. The hotline operators themselves point out that the telephone number is often busy and that it can take a long time to answer written questions.
