Fictional Certificate

If you apply for a residence permit or a settlement permit in Germany, the foreigners’ office sometimes gives you a fictional certificate (Fiktionsbescheinigung). This fictional certificate is issued by the immigration office if it has not yet decided on the person’s application. With this fictional certificate, the person’s stay in Germany is considered lawful and permitted. The period for which the foreigners’ office issues this certificate, is the period within which it wants to decide on the actual application. Experts call for “turbo naturalisation“

Only 2.5 per cent of all persons who fulfil the necessary requirements actually naturalise in Germany and thus acquire German citizenship. This fact is lamented by the Expert Council on Integration and Migration (SVR) in its current Annual Report 2021. The naturalisation rate in Germany is hereby significantly lower than in most other European countries. It is comparably low only in the Czech Republic, Austria, Denmark and Lithuania. The SVR therefore recommends, among other things, a “turbo naturalisation”: This should be made possible after only four years of residence for persons “who are particularly well integrated economically and socially, speak… Read More

Integration policy too short-term: Germany loosens in international ranking

In the current issue of the international integration ranking, Germany is longer in the top ten. The “Migrant Integration Policy Index” (MIPEX) has measured the integration of migrants in 52 countries for the fifth time.
