“We are not shutting down Baden-Württemberg completely.” said the Minister President of Baden-Württemberg, Winfried Kretschmann, in a statement on Sunday. However, from Monday, March 23rd, two stricter rules will apply for two weeks at least. Firstly, a distance of at least 1.5 meters from other people must be maintained everywhere. And secondly, only two people are allowed to walk or play sports outside together. However, families with more members are still allowed to go out in public together. The police will monitor closely whether the rules are being observed or not. And if necessary, they will “take firm action”, said Kretschmann. During a conference on Sunday, Chancellor Angela Merkel and the state minister presidents agreed on a common approach. It is still allowed to go to work, to the doctor, to buy food and to do outdoor sports but contact with other people is to be reduced even further. Restaurants are generally closed, but food can be picked up there to be eaten at home. Hairdressers, cosmetics shops and tattoo studios are closed. Kretschmann asked all people in Baden-Württemberg to behave “sensibly and responsibly”.
