German Federal Armed Forces start withdrawal from Afghanistan

German soldiers were stationed in Afghanistan for almost 20 years. The Federal Armed Forces have started the withdrawal on April 30th. “Our mission in Afghanistan is over,” explains the Ministry of Defense. Almost 1100 German soldiers were still in Afghanistan on April 30th – most of them in Mazar-i-Sharif, which is in the North of the country. Local employees of the Armed Forces which are being threatened are also supposed to be brought to Germany. This was announced by Secretary of Defense Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer. Only second to the USA, Germany provides the largest part of the NATO-troops. It is not yet certain when the withdrawal of all these troops will be over. With the withdrawal, all deportations to Afghanistan should be stopped immediately. This is demanded by the human rights organization Pro Asyl, according to a report by Deutschlandfunk.
