High number of self-employed migrants in the German service sect

There are a large number of self-employed persons with foreign roots in the service sector and in the construction industry. The traditionally high proportion of entrepreneurs with foreign roots in the retail and hospitality sectors, on the other hand, has declined, according to a recent Bertelsmann study. In a survey, the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry examined why migrants are still less likely to become self-employed: the main obstacles are the German language, but also insufficient commercial knowledge. Cultural hurdles, on the other hand, hamper only 13 percent of prospective founders.
