It is often claimed that you cannot infect other people if you do not display corona symptoms such as coughing, fever, shortness of breath or loss of taste. Even if you are in fact already infected with the virus. This opinion is widely held on social media.
But this is incorrect, as scientific studies have proven and as the Robert Koch Institute also agrees – as reported recently by ZDF. You can still infect others even if you do not display any symptoms. In the two days before you start showing symptoms, the danger is even greater. It is estimated that about 20 percent of all infected people do not show any symptoms at all. But they are still contagious.
So what should you do? If you have had contact with an infected person, you should avoid contact with people at risk, reduce contact in general and watch out for symptoms. If you have had close contact with an infected person, you should get tested if possible, preferably on the fifth day after contact. Close means being in face-to-face contact with a person for 15 minutes without keeping the minimum distance of 1.5 metres. In these cases, quarantine is also compulsory and must be carried out according to the instructions of the health authorities or doctors.
