Translation during interviews

Tünews international sent a request to the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF). We wanted to know how the BAMF deals with translation problems during the interview. We received the following reply: “If the BAMF is aware of the fact that an applicant speaks a certain dialect, an accordant interpreter is used for his or her hearing. Already at the application / file creation the applicant is interviewed about his or her preferred language for the hearing. This is recorded in the file. If, during the hearing, there are problems of interpretation between interpreters and applicants or decision-makers and interpreters, the decision-maker may interrupt the hearing and consult another interpreter. If a suitable interpreter is not available, the applicant will be re-invited to the hearing.”
