Tübingen city center mostly alcohol-free

The gastronomy is not allowed to give out alcoholic beverages during certain times in the city center of Tübingen. This also applies for take-aways and is valid on the coming weekends as well as the holidays. Moreover, nobody is allowed to consume self-brought alcohol on the Marktplatz and the Holzmarkt during Christmas, New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day. This was mandated by Tübingen’s mayor, Boris Palmer, and reported by the municipal press office. The serving of alcoholic beverages is forbidden during the Advent weekends, December 11th to 13th and 18th to 20th, from Friday, 12 p.m. to Sunday, 10 p.m. Additionally, the consumption of alcohol is forbidden during Christmas and the turn of the year on the Marktplatz and the Holzmarkt. This applies from Thursday, December 24th, 6 a.m., until Sunday, December 27th, 12 a.m. and from Thursday, December 31st, 6 a.m., until Friday, January 1st, 6 a.m. The police and other security services will supervise this. If someone disregards these regulations, they will have to pay a fine and can be banned from the square. These regulations were made to avoid big group gatherings and consequently lower the risk of people getting infected with the corona-virus.
