Which shops will remain open?

In social media, information was distributed about the closure of supermarkets in Germany with the advice to buy food for two weeks in advance. This has led to panic buying/hoarding. As a result, in numerous supermarkets entire shelves have been emptied of products such as canned food, pasta and toilet paper. On Monday, 17th March Chancellor Angela Merkel informed the public about the decisions of the Federal Government and the federal states: „The retail stores for food, weekly markets, beverage markets, pharmacies, medical supply stores, drugstores, petrol stations, banks and savings banks, post offices, hairdressers, laundromats (…) will not be closed.“ According to Merkel, the possibility of opening shops on Sundays in order to ensure the supply is being considered. However, all shops not mentioned above, playgrounds, bars, discos/clubs, theatres, museums, cinemas, amusement arcades, sports facilities, swimming pools and fitness studios are to be closed.
