Already, patients with a light cold were able to get a sick note from their doctor by phone. So far, this applied till the end of the year. However, this option has now been extended by three months, until the end of March 2021. The joint committee of doctors, health insurance companies and hospitals came to this decision. As was rule before, doctors have to thoroughly question the patient about their state of health on the phone. They then have to decide if an in-person visit to the practice is necessary. The sick leave via phone can be issued for up to seven days. It can be extended by another seven days by phone. This special regulation is in effect to reduce contacts and the risk of infection.
