«20 Days in Mariupol»: Screening of the documentary in Tübingen

The Oscar-nominated documentary 20 Days in Mariupol will be screened in Tübingen. The film will be sshown on the anniversary of the war, on Saturday, Februar 24, at 20:00 in the cinema hall of the Brauwerk Freistil pub (Wöhrdstraße 25). The entrance is free. The film will be broadcasted in the original language with German subtitles. The film has age restrictions—18+. “If the world could see everything that happened in Mariupol, it would give some sense to this horror. The brain desperately wants to forget it all—but the camera will not let it,” said the film’s director, Mstislav Chernov. He is Ukrainian war correspondent and writer, Associated Press videographer and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist.
Mstyslav Chernov´s film shows the siege of Mariupol in February-March 2022 during the full-scale Russian invasion. In the story, the only team of journalists trapped in the besieged city of Mariupol tries to continue his work documenting the tragedies of war. The film was made in cooperation with the Associated Press and Frontline.
The film premiered on January 21, 2023 at the Sundance Film Festival, the largest independent film festival in the United States, where it was selected for the Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize for Best Documentary and received the Sundance World Cinema Audience Award: Documentary. In total, as of January 2024, the film has received more than 20 awards and 40 nominations and is an Oscar nominee.
The film is also available for free in the ARD media library.
The organizers of the screening include the Ukrainian community of Tübingen, Brauwerk Freistil, Cassiopeia, a volunteer project that delivers medical and humanitarian goods to Ukraine. Donations will be accepted at the show, and all proceeds will be used to purchase medical equipment for Ukrainian rescue doctors in Kyiv.
