Most naturalized citizens come from Syria

A total of 20971 people were naturalized in Baden-Württemberg in 2022—21.2 percent more than the year before. For the first time, most of the newly naturalized, namely 4777, came from Syria. In the next places followed Turkey (2443), Romania (1516) and Italy (1054). This is according to the Baden-Württemberg State Statistical Office.
Many of the Syrians who fled their country of origin in 2015 or 2016 were able to apply for naturalization for the first time because of the length of stay required. 29.8 percent of those naturalized from Syria last year were minors. More Syrian men (67.7 percent) were naturalized than women.
Interest in naturalization in 2022 was particularly high among people from Syria. But citizens from other non-EU countries, such as Iran, Ukraine, Pakistan and Iraq, also had “an above-average naturalization rate,” according to the press release.
