Parking in Tübingen: With ticket or resident parking permit

In downtown Tübingen and in most parts of the city, only residents are allowed to park without a parking ticket. However, they then need a resident parking permit. All other drivers must pay a fee at the parking ticket machine—or park their car in a parking garage. Such a regulation also exists in many other German cities, for example in Reutlingen. Further information and a map of the parking zones for Tübingen citizens can be found on the city’s website. https://www.tuebingen.de/verwaltung/verfahren#bewohnerparkausweis. There is also the online form for the resident parking permit.
There are four parking zones in the university city that are managed. The exact regulations can be seen on the corresponding parking ticket machine and on the parking signs at the street intersections. The maximum parking time is also indicated there. Caution: In a few streets in the old town—for example in Jakobsgasse—only residents are allowed to park at night. If you park your car there anyway, you risk to get fined.
Zone 1
In the old town, in the western part of Wilhelmstraße and in the southern city center (Zone 1), parking costs 2 euros per hour every day between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.
Zone 2
Zone 2 is a ring around the first zone and also includes the larger part of Südstadt, the „French Quarter“ and Wilhelmvorstadt. Here, parking costs 1.50 euros per hour and 6 euros per day from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. In the rest of the city (Zone 3), parking fees are mostly 1 euro per hour and 4 euros per day at the same times.
Zone 4
Somewhat outside, at the open-air swimming pool and partly in Derendingen, parking costs 0.50 euros per hour and 2 euros per day.
Anyone whose main residence is registered in Tübingen and who has a car registered in their name can apply for a resident parking permit. Each person receives only one parking permit for the vehicle registered in his or her name. The same applies to a vehicle that can be proven to be permanently used by another owner.
A resident parking permit costs 120 euros per year. For vehicles with combustion engines that weigh more than 1800 kilograms empty or for pure e-cars with an empty weight of more than 2000 kilograms, the annual fee is 180 euros. Holders of a KreisBonusCard pay half. The expiration date of the parking permit is then linked to the validity of the KreisBonusCard.
The resident parking permit is applied for via the online portal. The access data for the customer account is then sent in a separate personalized e-mail. Payment is made directly at the time of application—via GiroPay, PayPal or credit card. The ID cards are issued for twelve months and are not automatically renewed. Anyone who returns their ID card early must ask for refund for unused fees themselves.
