It could be very icy on Wednesday

The German Weather Service (DWD) is warning of possible major hazards tomorrow, Wednesday, January 17, due to exceptionally icy conditions. A warm front is expected to turn the forecast snowfall into rain. If this hits the ground, which has been frozen by the cold of the last few days, severe black ice could form. As the rain will last longer, real ice sheets could form and roads and paths could become exceptionally slippery. There is also a risk of ice breaking off trees.
The DWD therefore urgently recommends avoiding unnecessary walks and journeys. This is because there is a risk of considerable disruption to traffic routes, including road closures. The electricity and mobile phone networks could also fail.
At www.wettergefahren.de you can find out about the current situation, in particular the exact areas and the period during which black ice can be expected. There is also a video with the forecasts.
