No New Year’s Eve fireworks in the old town centre

No rockets or firecrackers may be set off in Tübingen’s old town centre on New Year’s Eve. With this ban on fireworks, the city wants to protect the historic centre and the avenue of plane trees from damage on the night of Sunday, 31 December, to 1 January. At the turn of the year 2008/2009, a half-timbered house on the market square caught fire. It caused millions of euros worth of damage. Fireworks may also not be set off in the vicinity of churches, hospitals and retirement homes.
